Since 2005, the Welsh Capital of Cardiff has become a place associated with hit TV shows. Known for its amazing “Shootablility”, Cardiff has become a hidden gem for film crews and frequently doubles up as London in the hit TV series Sherlock.
Starting at the National Museum Cardiff, you will explore filming locations centred around Cardiff’s Civic Centre, which houses some fine examples of Edwardian Portland Stone buildings and is considered one of the finest examples of a Civil Centre in Europe. This portion of the tour explores filming locations from The Blind Banker, A Study in Pink and The Empty Hearse before moving on to the city centre.
Cardiff’s city centre is a thriving hub of shopping, dining and drinking and some of its lesser known gems have been seen throughout Sherlock. Explore one of the pubs where John and Sherlock drink during Watson’s Stag party, as well as the restaurant where Sherlock meets Magnussen in His Last Vow. You will also have a chance to see a location from the unaired 60 minute pilot episode A Study in Pink before standing where Sherlock makes an illuminating deduction in The Lying Detective.
After exploring Cardiff’s City Centre, we will travel by train to Cardiff Bay where we explore locations from The Six Thatcher’s, A Study in Pink, His Last Vow and the mini-episode Many Happy Returns. The tour will finish at the Senedd in Cardiff bay, itself a Sherlock filming location seen in His Last Vow and The Six Thatchers, where you will have chance to explore the seat of the Welsh Assembly Government at your own pace.
