Enjoy a trip to the magical and world-famous Skellig Michael rocks on our Skellig Michael tour. The island features in the finale of Episode 7 of the epic space saga set in a galaxy far away. The 6th century site is protected by UNESCO and is located 8 miles off the South West coast of Ireland.
Now you too can enjoy this stunning location, which is featured as the home and refuge of the older and wiser character played by Mark Hamill.
Your experience in South West Ireland will start with a stay at a 4 star hotel – the very same 4 star hotel where Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley and director JJ Abrams, plus other members of the cast and crew, stayed during their filming of The Force Awakens as well as the forthcoming Episode 8 of the space saga.
Aside from the epic space saga, the hotel has also been previously patronised by Hollywood glitterati including Charlie Chaplin, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones.
Upon check in at the hotel, you will be given full details of your trip to Skellig the next morning. After breakfast on the following day, you will be picked up at the hotel around 8:20am before heading to where your boat will depart for the rock at 9:20am.
If you are physically very fit and wish to explore the rock and climb the steep stairs, then this is the option for you! After a 1 ½ hour boat ride, you will arrive at the rock and be given 2 hours to enjoy lunch and to explore the rock, including the steep stairs that Daisy Ridley climbed in her search for Mark Hamill’s character.
You will also get to see the ‘beehives’ that the monks lived in when they inhabited the island more than 600 hundred years ago. The boat returns to Portmagee by 3:30pm and again arrangements will be made to pick you up and take you back to the hotel, where you can enjoy an evening meal to the value of 30 Euros, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
Important Note: Owing to the nature of the location, boat trips to and from the rock can be quite rough and can cause sea sickness. Please note that this tour is a ‘wilderness outing’ to an uninhabited island in the Atlantic Ocean where there are no modern facilities. Customers are advised to wear suitable clothing and to bring their own water and food for the island trip. Trips to (and around) the rock are subject to variable weather conditions and, if weather is bad, boat trips may not be able to operate. Please note that no refunds are possible once booked. Please also note that, as there is a cap on the total number of people allowed to visit this site each year, customers are advised to book well in advance of their preferred tour date. This Skellig Michael tour is only suitable for children aged 11+ years.
