The icy cold dread that fans have expected for months now: the Long Night of Winter is here, and the coming summer will be shorter than ever.
The 7th season of Game of Thrones is set to premiere on HBO in mid-2017. HBO unsurprisingly greenlit Game of Thrones for a season 7 before season 6 even aired on TV. Unlike previous seasons that all consisted of ten episodes, the seventh season will consist of only seven episodes something that Benioff and Weiss have hinted for months now. In addition, it appears that season 8 looks poised to only be a mere six episodes.
However they have confirmed that the total time spent filming will be the same as for a 10-episode run – and according to Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont), this means that the scale and size of the set pieces will be far more epic and extraordinary than ever if that’s possible! The season was filmed primarily in Northern Ireland, Spain, and Iceland.
Game of Thrones season 7 cast: Who is in it?
Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion), Lena Headey (Cersei), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime) all signed up back in 2014.
The same five actors were also optioned for an eighth run of episodes in June 2016 – for a reported $1.1million (£8 85,000) per episode.
Sophie Turner’s is obviously back playing the incredible Sansa Stark. And it looks like the Lady of Winterfell will return for the final season as she let it slip that she needs keep her schedule clear for Game of Thrones season 8 later in 2017.
Therefore, it seems like anything could happen in the next episode, including characters having appearances that have died by the hands of others. This seems to be the case with the villainous Walder Frey.
This is not to say that Walder Frey has survived having his throat cut by Arya. However as Arya has learned how to change her appearance at will, perhaps Arya will be posing as Walder Frey in order to truly bring the family to their knees. With Walder Frey returning in some capacity for Season 7, could other characters eventually reappear on Game of Thrones?
Therefore, with all the rumours we will have to wait until winter is here to find out if many of the speculations and rumours are true. Will Jon Snow marry Sansa Stark? Will Bran let the White Walkers through the wall? and will Jamie kill Cersei? The possibilities are endless….
