Each tour is designed to be interactive and engaging, allowing fans to re-enact iconic scenes, take part in hilarious activities, and experience the quirky humor of Father Ted firsthand. From standing outside the famous Parochial House to visiting local pubs featured in the series, every stop is packed with surprises and comedy gold.
Expect plenty of photo opportunities, fun anecdotes from the making of the show, and a true taste of Craggy Island madness. The tour guides, well-versed in the show’s history, provide behind-the-scenes insights and trivia, ensuring an authentic and entertaining experience. The tour includes a variety of must-see locations from Father Ted, each bringing back memories of classic episodes.
1. The Parochial House
No Father Ted tour would be complete without a visit to the Parochial House, the infamous home of Ted, Dougal, and Jack. Nestled in the rolling countryside of County Clare, this is arguably the most iconic location from the series. Fans can pose for photos outside the house, reliving some of the show’s most memorable moments, from Ted’s exasperation at Dougal’s idiocy to Mrs. Doyle’s relentless tea offers.
2. The ‘Song for Europe’ Video Location
One of the tour’s highlights is a visit to the site where “My Lovely Horse” was filmed for the A Song for Europe episode. Fans can re-create the music video scene, gallop through the fields, and even belt out the song if they feel inspired. This stop is a fan favorite, offering a fun and lighthearted way to connect with one of the show’s most beloved moments.
3. The Chinese Pub
The legendary Chinese Pub from the episode Are You Right There, Father Ted? is another key stop. In this episode, Father Ted inadvertently makes a series of unfortunate blunders that lead to him being wrongly accused of racism. The pub still holds the atmosphere of the episode, and fans can take part in re-enacting some of the most awkward (and hilarious) moments from the show.
4. Mrs. O’Reilly’s House and the Roundabout
Fans will also recognize Mrs. O’Reilly’s House, the setting for some of the series’ most ridiculous misunderstandings. Not far from this location is the Roundabout, famous for Father Dougal’s disastrous driving skills. The tour allows visitors to reimagine the chaos of the Mobile Mass and other side-splittingly funny Father Ted moments.
5. The Crag
The tour takes you to The Crag, a location significant to the legacy of Father Ted. Here, a plaque was unveiled in 2008 by the show’s creators, Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews, to commemorate the filming of the series. It’s a special place for fans to reflect on the impact of Father Ted and take in the stunning Clare scenery.
6. The Lovely Girls Competition Field
Step into the world of Craggy Island’s annual Lovely Girls Competition! The field where this famous Father Ted event took place is part of the tour, offering fans a chance to walk the same ground where contestants competed for the prestigious (and hilarious) title.
7. More Iconic Filming Locations
Depending on availability and time, the tour may also include stops at:
The “Down with This Sort of Thing” Protest Location – The site of Ted and Dougal’s hilariously ineffective protest outside a cinema.
Pat Mustard’s Milk Float Route – Revisit the setting of Speed 3, where Dougal had to heroically stop an out-of-control milk float.
Various Craggy Island Backdrops – Throughout the tour, you’ll see the landscapes and roads that served as the backdrop to many Father Ted scenes.
The tour is packed with fun, nostalgia, and interactive moments, making it a unique and unforgettable trip through the world of Father Ted. Whether you come as a solo pilgrim or bring a group of fellow fans, you’re guaranteed a day of laughter, surprises, and classic Craggy Island chaos!
