About This Tour

  • Tour description

Take a Doctor Who Cardiff Walking Tour and follow the path of the Doctor and their companions through the streets of Wales’s capital. Since the series returned to television in 2005, Cardiff has been at the heart of Doctor Who production, with its streets, buildings and public spaces regularly transformed into locations across space and time.

This fully guided walking tour begins outside the historic castle at the centre of the city and explores a wide range of filming locations used throughout the modern era of the show. As you travel through the city centre your guide will reveal how Cardiff became the production base for Doctor Who and how familiar streets have doubled for alien worlds, futuristic institutions and even London itself.

Along the way you will visit locations used in episodes spanning from the first episode of the revived series through to recent specials and spin-offs. Your guide will share behind-the-scenes stories from filming, explain how certain scenes were created and point out spots where famous moments featuring the Doctor, their companions and some of the show’s most iconic villains were filmed.

The tour explores both well-known landmarks and hidden corners of the city that have appeared on screen. You will see places used for alien invasions, dramatic chases, secret entrances and unexpected encounters with monsters. From the site of a department store destroyed by the Doctor to streets where the Master revealed his rise to power, the tour brings the Whoniverse to life through the real locations where the series was filmed.

The walk lasts around two hours and finishes outside the grand building that has appeared in several Doctor Who episodes as museums, galleries and scientific institutions. Comfortable footwear is recommended and the tour goes ahead whatever the weather — unless, of course, the city is invaded by Daleks or Cybermen.

This tour complements the Doctor Who Cardiff Bay Tour which runs later in the afternoon on Saturday at 2:30pm. Book both and get a 25% discount on the Ultimate combo Tour ticket.

So Allons-y and Geronimo, we look forward to seeing you there.”
