Recommended by the official Doctor Who magazine, the Doctor Who London Walking Tour explores many of the locations used in the long-running science fiction series, including sites featured in the 60th Anniversary specials. This guided walking tour takes you through the heart of London following in the footsteps of the Doctor and their companions while discovering how the capital has played an important role in the Whoniverse.
Doctor Who first appeared on television in November 1963 and has since become the longest-running science fiction series in television history. The show returned to screens in 2005 with a new generation of Doctors, companions and villains, while continuing to celebrate its classic past.
During this 2½-hour tour your guide will lead you through several iconic London locations used throughout the modern series as well as a few memorable moments from classic episodes. Along the way you will hear behind-the-scenes stories about filming, learn how real London landmarks were transformed for the screen and discover how certain scenes were created.
The walk begins near the skyscraper that served as the headquarters of a mysterious technology company in The Bells of Saint John, where the Eleventh Doctor arrives to investigate a sinister plot hidden within the internet. From here the tour follows the path along the River Thames and through central London to explore locations connected with alien invasions, secret organisations and time-travelling adventures.
You will visit the riverfront where a spaceship crashes during Aliens of London, see the theatre where the Carrionite witches attempt to control the power of words, and explore the square where the TARDIS is dramatically lifted by helicopter during the 50th Anniversary special.
The tour also includes the famous cathedral steps where the Cybermen march during Dark Water and Death in Heaven, as well as locations connected to UNIT and the recent 60th Anniversary episodes featuring the Fourteenth Doctor.
Along the way your guide will share stories about the show’s production, its history in London and how the series continues to evolve more than sixty years after it first appeared on television.
The tour includes a short bus journey, so guests will need either an Oyster card, a contactless card or a valid Zone 1 travelcard. The tour finishes by the River Thames near the Houses of Parliament, one of the most recognisable landmarks regularly featured in Doctor Who.
