About This Tour

  • Tour description

Prepare for a time-travelling adventure on this private Doctor Who Cardiff tour exploring some of the most important filming locations connected to the series since its return to television in 2005. Over the past two decades Cardiff and the surrounding areas of South Wales have played a central role in bringing the Doctor’s universe to life, doubling for locations across space, time and even other countries.

Travelling with your own driver and expert Doctor Who guide, this tour takes you beyond the city centre to explore a wide variety of locations used throughout the modern era of the show. Cardiff’s architecture, historic villages and countryside have all helped create memorable settings ranging from alien planets and futuristic institutions to small English villages and wartime communities.

During the tour you will visit locations connected to several Doctors and companions. You will see the village that doubled as Amy Pond’s hometown in her first appearance with the Eleventh Doctor, explore the historic setting used as a boarding school in one of the show’s most emotional stories, and visit the village where a mysterious teacher named John Smith hides from dangerous enemies.

The tour also includes stops in the waterfront area frequently seen in Doctor Who and Torchwood, where the Doctor has landed the TARDIS on several occasions. Here you will visit places used as futuristic hospitals, alien banks and secret organisations.

As you travel around the city and surrounding areas your guide will explain how Cardiff became the production home of Doctor Who and share behind-the-scenes stories about filming. You will also learn about the real history of the locations you visit and how they were transformed for the screen.

The tour lasts around four hours and includes several opportunities to step out of the vehicle, walk around the filming locations and take photographs. The tour finishes back in central Cardiff.
