About This Tour

  • Tour description

Step behind the curtain and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of costume design with The Angels Costume Tour. This exclusive two-hour experience takes you into the heart of the world’s leading provider of costumes for the entertainment industry. Since its founding in 1840, Angels has played an integral role in creating some of the most memorable costumes for West End productions, the renowned Madame Tussauds, and countless television and film productions over the decades.

Located in North London, Angels Costume House opens its doors to film, theatre, and fashion enthusiasts, offering an extraordinary behind-the-scenes look at their vast costume-making operation. Within this extraordinary warehouse, you will find yourself surrounded by an unparalleled collection of iconic costumes from the worlds of film, TV, and theatre. Whether you’re a dedicated film buff, a lover of fashion history, or simply intrigued by the craft of costume-making, this tour is a dream come true.

Guided by an expert who has witnessed the magic of costume creation first-hand, you will be taken through the different departments that bring characters to life on stage and screen. As you navigate through the various sections, including Tailoring, Ladies Making, Alterations, Uniform, the Badge Room, Armoury, and the Warehouse, you’ll witness skilled artisans at work, transforming fabric and trim into garments fit for the spotlight. The scale of this operation is breathtaking, with more than eight miles of rails lined with thousands of costumes spanning different historical periods and fantasy worlds.

Angels has long been a cornerstone of the entertainment industry, from its humble beginnings to its pivotal role in contemporary productions. Throughout the tour, you’ll be regaled with first-hand stories of working on some of the most beloved productions in recent history. From the intricate robes of “Harry Potter” to the regal attire of “The Crown,” the elegant ensembles of “Downton Abbey,” the dazzling costumes of “Wicked,” and the medieval armory of “Game of Thrones,” Angels’ legacy is woven into the fabric of film and television history. The tour also showcases costumes crafted for legendary performers such as Benedict Cumberbatch, Judi Dench, Fred Astaire, Johnny Depp, and Cate Blanchett, offering a glimpse into the artistry behind the characters they portrayed.

Beyond just seeing these remarkable costumes, visitors may even witness the next chapter of costume history being written. You never know—you might catch a glimpse of a well-known actor being fitted for their next role! The tour provides a rare opportunity to observe the behind-the-scenes processes that help shape the visual storytelling of some of the biggest productions in the world.

To ensure an intimate and immersive experience, group sizes are limited to a maximum of 15 persons per tour. This allows for a more personal and detailed exploration of Angels’ treasure trove of costumes and craftsmanship. Whether you’re fascinated by history, fashion, theatre, or cinema, The Angels Costume Tour promises an unforgettable journey into the art of costume-making, offering a unique perspective on the garments that have captivated audiences for generations.
